New Year…Happy 2011

Well it’s a new year folks…let’s hope it’s a good one.

So I recently got into the RIFT beta…probably the same time most everyone else did who was interested.  I have to say, more of the same ol’ shit.  It’s not a bad game, but I have played it before…from the planar rift stuff (WAR’s public quests), from the “soul” skills and training (SWG skill tree system), to the everyday grind of trying to increase your levels.  When is a company going to take a chance and make something different.  I guess WoW destroyed that for a while.  Congrats to Blizzard, btw, on selling 5 million copies of their latest expansion.  I’m flabbergasted.

While I am in the game, gathering up quests and finding that illusive 10th mob that I had to kill for Sir Dumbarse who can’t seem to do his own work, I was reading some of the great social commentators in the General Chat channel.  Man, was it awesome.  It seems to be that way for most games, so I wasn’t surprised, but what does surprise me is the conversations always seem to be the exact same drivel.  College students and enlightened 30 somethings sharing their views on world politics and the human condition…it’s enough to make you want to put a hot poker in your eyes.  Oh well, I guess I get mildly entertained by it because I don’t turn the channel off.

Work continues on the 3rd person stuff.  I can safely say that I am almost done with the bulk of the work.  The rest will be tweaking and fixing minor things.  I’m not sure what’s on tap for me after this….I hope I don’t get fired, that would suck.

    Happy New Year.

    The para looks stunning. GREAT work!

    And as for getting fired, there are all the AT/AAA gun crews that need doing next, plus the crews on the boats, and the tank commanders, etc. Enough to keep you going for a ‘few’ more weeks. 🙂

    indeed, great work on the para, looks sweet, his face is much more British looking than the others we have seen in open beta 🙂

    You’ll be happy to know that the British Infantryman’s head has been changed since the beta. I think you’ll like it better.

    Thanks for the update TOTO! Fantastic work indeed on all the 3rd person models we have seen so far.

    Can you add some uniform progression while you are at it, camo for later Tiers please? 😉

    Or maybe para specific weapons? Hehehe

    Gun crews using upgraded current technology
    Further infantry development to create new capabilities (low/high prone, mousewheel crouch, gunner stance linked to gun aim on a tripod or pintle)
    First person air crews; also third person for bombers
    Separated ground vehicle object and crew, creating a need for crew character sets
    Upgraded naval crews
    New objects, with infantry-crew positions to operate (such as generic rubber assault boat with rowing crew)

    Seems to me that the work list for person-modeling is pretty long…
