Well…Tomorrow then.

After almost three years, I may finally get that new work box.  Gophur put together two new rigs for the Art Department (yep..TWO, that’s the whole art department).  Nice rigs for the money.  One problem; no serial bus.  You may ask what do we need a serial port for?  Well you see, we have this draconian piece of software that still uses a serial hardware key (dongle)…and my frickin Wacom is a serial port one.  Holy shit!  I lobbied for a new tablet, but they didn’t bite.  Gophur added an I/O card to it….blech!   I told him it might mysteriously short out, he didn’t laugh.   The box was going to run Vista but he couldn’t get the raid system configured with it or some shit.  Drivers maybe?   Hell I dunno.  Anyway, it will be nice to finally be able to run Max and Photoshop at the same time.   I wonder if he timed it so I would get it on my birthday?    Nah…I give him too much credit.

Hmm maybe I will load Age of Conan on it……

Glad to hear you finaly have a better work PC.

Not having Vista on it would seam a bonus. You can always put Vista’s replacement on it when it appears next year! 😉

As for your graphics tablet, well maybe the idea is if the China thing works out well they can aford to by you a nice new one! 🙂

    Wacom does make travel cases.

Not that you should have to bring your own tablet to work…

You can get a serial to USB converter for a couple bucks at frys, works great for my old Wacom ArtZ tablet in Win XP. Downside is the tablets dont work in Vista and Wacom has said they wont make drivers for em. Second modern monitors are widescreen and the old tablets aren’t and if you ever wanna mess with yer eye / hand coordination that’s a good way to go about it, granted if you’re in XP the old wacom drivers will let you map the tablet to a window.

I broke down and bought a 8×5 Wacom bamboo fun off amazon for fairly cheap, fits in my laptop bag and goes to work with me every day.
