E3 Nerdgasm!

Oh my….been checking out all of the cool news coming out of Cali from E3….I don’t know if I will have enough time this year and early next for it all.  Oh, and here at Playnet, we had our anniversary announcement.   Let’s just say it met with mixed reviews.  I’ve heard both sides of the argument, and I can sympathize with them, but we’ll see how it all plays out.

Being the only artist at the company now, has it’s ups and downs, and I am trying to get used to all of the “little” things that i am responsible for.  So if I don’t respond here much, it’s because I am busy you ‘tards.

So back to the cool things being shown at E3.  I have to say that I am most looking forward to Mass Effect 3, Gears of War3, Skyrim and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.  Lot’s of cool new things for the fans of CoD Elite and Battlefield 3 with their social networking thing going on.  I’m not really that thrilled with Sony’s Vita.  Another handheld platform for a handheld market that is slowly dwindling with the advent of smart-phones.
All in all though, very exciting stuff.  One of these days, I am going to make it to one of those there E3 thingies.

More Cool Stuff

Man, there is a bunch I would love to blab about, but just can’t.  Been working a lot here at the Cornered Rat place, but still more to be done.   If you didn’t know, our 10th anniversary is on June 6th.  You guys should go check out our t-shirts celebrating the event (my designs are the “WWIIOL” ones…one for each side):

E3 is right around the corner as well.   I’ve actually never been to one….always wanted to but have never made it.  I wish I could have gone this year as there is a bunch of games featured this year that I am really interested in.  Mass Effect 3, Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3, the new Assassin’s Creed, and a couple of others I can’t think of off the top of my head.

The End of May…

I’m really not good at this am I?   January was my last post, holy hell.

Lot’s of stuff going on here at work, especially since our 10th anniversary is coming up in June.  I finished a T-Shirt design to commemorate the occasion…well actually two different designs; one axis, one allied.   If we don’t do that, then we get accused of favoritism, I still giggle about that.
I’ve been working on some other things as well, but…well….just forget I said anything.

Been trying to find some time to mess with UDK some more, but when I get home, I’m not much in a mood to do anything.  I need to get some sort of physical activity in sometimes as well so that limits my “sit at the computer time”.  I did manage to check out The Witcher 2 a bit….nice looking game.

Oh by the way:  I do have my own twitter thingie going on now….I have no idea how interesting it will be but if you want to check it out, it’s “gamedude_toto”.  My wife and her friend are my only followers at the moment so take that for what it’s worth. 🙂

New Year…Happy 2011

Well it’s a new year folks…let’s hope it’s a good one.

So I recently got into the RIFT beta…probably the same time most everyone else did who was interested.  I have to say, more of the same ol’ shit.  It’s not a bad game, but I have played it before…from the planar rift stuff (WAR’s public quests), from the “soul” skills and training (SWG skill tree system), to the everyday grind of trying to increase your levels.  When is a company going to take a chance and make something different.  I guess WoW destroyed that for a while.  Congrats to Blizzard, btw, on selling 5 million copies of their latest expansion.  I’m flabbergasted.

While I am in the game, gathering up quests and finding that illusive 10th mob that I had to kill for Sir Dumbarse who can’t seem to do his own work, I was reading some of the great social commentators in the General Chat channel.  Man, was it awesome.  It seems to be that way for most games, so I wasn’t surprised, but what does surprise me is the conversations always seem to be the exact same drivel.  College students and enlightened 30 somethings sharing their views on world politics and the human condition…it’s enough to make you want to put a hot poker in your eyes.  Oh well, I guess I get mildly entertained by it because I don’t turn the channel off.

Work continues on the 3rd person stuff.  I can safely say that I am almost done with the bulk of the work.  The rest will be tweaking and fixing minor things.  I’m not sure what’s on tap for me after this….I hope I don’t get fired, that would suck.

December Already

Man time flies.  Seems like I was just celebrating my birthday (back in April) and now it’s Santa’s turn.  Oh well…the clock keeps ticking.

So as you all probably already know and have known, I finally got my way and we are redoing the third person infantry portion of the game.  Like pulling teeth my friends, like pulling teeth.   It’s not quite the way I wanted to do it, but beggars can’t be choosers right?  Ramp wrote a new tool in order to let me do my job a bit more efficiently and so far, it is the cat’s pajamas.  For all you young folk, you can look that phrase up.  As of today, I am really close to having all of the blends done (the ones needed for the beta), and then I go back to modeling the German and British paratroopers.  Yes, the Frenchie para is all done.  Ramp ran a little batch query and you will be surprised to know that there are almost 900 separate blend files in the current game.  900 different things that a trooper can do (that includes all weapons).  Woah!  A lot.

On my personal side of things, I have started dedicating at least one hour to illustration, drawing, sketching, whatever you want to call it.  It helps keep my lowly skills on a decent level.  I’m also playing Eve Online of all things, turns out it is pretty fun.  It’s all a time killing thing while I anxiously await Bioware to release the Ashley Williams download content for Mass Effect 2.   What?!
